About the event
Addiction continues to impact individuals, families, and communities in profound ways-- but stigma remains one of the greatest barriers to seeking help. Join us for a free, educational training where we’ll explore the science of addiction and substance use disorders (SUDs), the power of language, and life-saving tools for preventing and responding to overdoses.
Part I: Stigma Associated with Substance Use Disorders
Stigma can lead to feelings of shame and isolation, often causing people to avoid the very care, support, and meaningful connections with others that could make a difference. Many experience stigma where they turn for help—whether that's in schools, community programs, workplaces, or medical settings. This leads to missed opportunities for connection and care for our loved ones, neighbors, and community members.
In this session, participants will:
Learn to recognize the three types of stigma associated with substance use
Identify common perceptions and behaviors that promote stigma
