About the event

Secondary trauma is a natural hazard in this profession. In this training, participants will learn about secondary trauma and its possible impact on them as professionals. Topics include: what secondary traumatic stress is, how to recognize it, and an introduction to protective strategies for self and others.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Be aware of the types of secondary trauma that impact professionals.
  2. Be able to recognize the warning signs of secondary trauma in self and others.
  3. Remember what protective strategies can be implemented daily to provide appropriate self-care.
  4. Remember what protective strategies can be utilized to support co-workers impacted by trauma.

Presenter: Cheryl Turner, University of Nebraska - Lincoln: Center on Children, Families, and the Law

Cheryl Turner is a training specialist with the Center on Children, Families, and the Law.  She is a trauma and attachment therapist who has worked with children, adolescents, families and adults within the Lincoln Community for the last 20+ years. Cheryl has completed extensive training in various areas of trauma and mental health and has focused her career on helping those most in need learn the skills necessary to be successful. In 2017, Cherly was named a Truama Informed Pioneer in Education by the Beyond Consequences Institute for her significant progress and commitment to improving the lives of children impacted by trauma

Continuing Education Hours:

Professionals who believe that this programming meets the requirements of their professional licensure board may present their certificate to their professional board. All those attending in full will receive a certificate of attendance and agenda for the day that includes the course title, trainer names, date, location, and number of hours. It is the responsibility of the individual attending to be familiar with the CEU requirements of their professional licensing board. Licensees should retain course materials and certificates for four years for auditing purposes.
